8 Minute Memoir: My Breakfast Restaurant

By Holden Soelberg If I had a breakfast restaurant it would be called “Eat Like Waddles”. There would be a bar with stools that you could sit at and eat all your favorite breakfast foods. To eat there would be waffles, pancakes, oatmeal, german pancakes, blueberry/ banana/ chocolate chip pancakes, all different types of eggs, toast, breakfast burritos, fruit bowls and there would be tons of toppings, like cookie butter, fruit, butter jam jelly, peanut butter, whipped cream and nuts, there would also be add ons like bacon, eggs, toast, and sausage, there would be a little booth that you walked into, closed the door and pressed ...

Author Bio - Rose Kartchner

Image
Rose Kartchner lives in Blanding Utah. She is AMAZING. She is also her mom’s favorite child out of the 5 kids in the house. Rose is 12, and is the oldest one. Her siblings sometimes say that she’s bossy. Her parents sometimes say that she is ornery. But trust me, she is obviously never one of those things.           She likes to read, write short stories, (most of which she never finishes) ride her bike, cross stitch, and stop motion. She just learned how to kayak today, but that is not one of her hobbies. Rose also likes to obsessively eat chocolate, but is working on eating less.           A fun thing about Rose is that she has a degree in 6th grade education. She wants to be a teacher/author/stay-at-home-mom, and wishes that she could have been a pioneer. She also has red hair, and everyone (even strangers) compliments her on it, but strangely that hasn’t gotten rid of her shyness. (Or maybe it’...

8 Minute Memoir: One Food

By Scout Soelberg           If I could choose one food it would be toast. Because toast you can choose what is on your piece of toast. My 2nd food would be raspberries . I would have water to drink. I would definitely not choose tomatoes. They are my least favorite food.           I would enjoy picking peoples food. It would be so fun to choose what they eat. The girl on a bench by the red tree, eat avocados forever. It would be fun to give people gross foods to eat. Like carrot juice.           I think my friends would love to have me pick their foods. I could give them cool foods. I could also give them lame food. If someone does not like me I could give them gross foods.          If I could be the picker that would be great. Scout S. 3/31/2020

Vaccines

By Rose Kartchner           If you’re like me, you’re probably saying to yourself, ‘why don’t they just make a vaccine for Coronavirus and give it to everyone?’ Seriously though, why don’t they? We could be done with this pandemic in a few days! (Maybe.) Well, turns out that vaccines are really hard to make. Plus, they cost lots of money. However, they are really helpful, so couldn’t the world just work together to make one really fast?           First, let’s get a better explanation of what vaccines are. Vaccines are treatments that make your body stronger. They help you fight off different diseases. When you get a shot, that’s called a vaccination. Shots can hurt A LOT, but they really help you so you don’t get super sick.           Wait. What’s in a vaccine? Is it water? Will it hurt me even more? Actually, no and no. Surprisingly, vaccines are made of little bits of germs. I know, it’s hard to believe, bu...

STAY HOME STAY SAFE A NEWS ARTICLE THAT TELLS YOU WHY TO STAY AT HOME. WRITTEN BY ASHER ELLIS 1) Do you have family with you? If you do, then you can play with them, talk with them, and be with them. This is one of the funnest things that you can do in your house. You can play endless imaginative games with your family members. If you have bored games then those should be a boredom to go to. But on the other hand, if you do not live with family members, in some states you can join a “quaranTEAM” that way you can join some relatives and can be close. But make sure that you live in a state that allows that! If it doesn’t, then the internet has a variety of things to play and how to bond with. The zoom app allows you to see other people, as does google hangouts. You can learn new online games such as two player game dominion (Try it!) and  Uno. One player games such as video games. 2) You can clean up your house and (if you have one) your yard. I know that you may not like ...

8 Minute Memoir: Biking

By Rose Kartchner I love riding bikes. I just got a new bike a couple weeks ago because my last bike’s gears wouldn’t shift. My bike is black and green because that was the only one at the store that would fit me. It is a mountain bike. I ride it all around where I live. We only have one trail by our house, and I like riding on that. I like to go fast down hills, but I don’t like going off jumps. If it wasn’t quarantine, I would ride bikes with my friends, but now I just ride it with my younger brother. We sometimes have races, but mostly we just talk when we ride. If I had a magic bike, it would be able to fly because that would be way cool. I would ride it to school every morning, but I would hide it on the roof. Why? So that no one would steal it. I would MAYBE let my siblings ride it, but only sometimes. I think that it would be cool to do a marathon on my bike sometime.

Chicken Farmer Interview

By Rose Karchner Because of Covid-19, many people have bought chickens. Meyer Hatchery, a place that sells chicks, says that they have doubled their chicken sales in one month. Chickens are even something that kids can help take care of! Many people have also bought eggs from local farmers. Covid-19 has made people look at the food supply chain, and want to be self-sustainable. David Kartchner, who works as a Physical Therapist has taken an interest in starting a business selling eggs. I asked him some questions about his ‘company’ and maybe this can help you decide if chickens are right for your family during this time. Q: When did you become a chicken farmer? A: We inherited the chickens from our family when they were moving locations. So it was in 2017ish. Q: What’s your “company’s” name? A: Little Annie’s Chicken Farm Q: Why did you want to be a chicken farmer? A: I find chickens to be really relaxing. I like the idea of providing clean and sustainable food for my family...

8 Minute Memoir: The Robot

8 Minute Memoir: The Robot  By Beatrice Soelberg One of my robots would look like a star the other one would look like a panda. My family would like it.I found it in the dump. It would sleep with me. We would go to Hawaii we ( me and my robots ) would meet my friend Avery. It would clean. If you ask them for something they will do it. For example if I asked them to take me to the swimming pool they would. They will give you anything except toys. Because that is what they poop out. The only thing my fam would not like is that if it gets too hot it will undo all the mess it cleaned up ( which is A LOT ). It can transform into anything. Here is how I found my robots. I was looking for money in the dump ( because who wouldn't) and I found them. Guess what, yesterday they had babies. The babies are star / panda because the mom is the star and the dad is the panda. THE END thank you for listening.

Marble Racing

By Jack Kartchner           Right now it is hard to find a good sporting event to watch or play. Are you missing your team sports? Are you sad you can’t watch any sporting events? Maybe you were looking forward to the Olympics this summer and are disappointed to miss out. If you miss playing sports or watching them then I have the thing for you: marble racing.           I found Marble racing with my dad on YouTube. Marble racing is a fun show where someone sets up courses and races marbles. There are several different types of courses and events. Some of the courses are on the sand. They sometimes have obstacles, bridges and cool curves. They also have regular marble courses, like the ones you buy with elevators, half pipes and funnels. Some marble racing also has olympic games with marbles for those who are sad they are missing out on the olympics this year.           I also like that the marbles have cool...
