Racial Equality

Racial Equality By Rose Kartchner           With the deaths of George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery, it has brought to light racial inequalities and how we treat and view people of color. It’s encouraged people to learn more about different people, be involved, and think about how they treat others. Some people have shared on social media different resources that can help. Some people have signed petitions, and donated money to certain businesses.           However, as kids, sometimes it’s hard to know how we can help. I don’t even have a phone, for crying out loud. So how can kids (and adults) help racial inequality?           One idea that you can do to learn more is to ask your parents questions about different races and cultural events in history. And don’t just learn about Black people. Learn about Asians, Latinos, Native Americans, and any other race that you can think of. This can help you learn about dif...

Either way, they taste amazing! Plus, this is a great way for parents to get their kids to like baking, because these don’t require an oven! They are super after-school snacks, and can be made a lot of ways, but I’m going to share the ones my family likes the most. History Books for some Summer Reading By Jack Kartchner If you are bored and are looking for something to read this summer you might want to consider some historical fiction books. Historical Fiction books are interesting because they tell you about things that happened in history but create a fun story with the characters they create. They are exciting because they help you imagine what it would be like to live at that time in history. Here are a few books I would recommend to get you started.   Johnny Tremain by Esther Forbes: Johnny Tremain is about a boy who is a silversmith apprentice at the beginning of the revolutionary war. An accident changes his plans for the future but gets him involved with the Sons of Liberty and the events that start the Revolutionary War. This is a great historical fiction book about America at the beginning of the Revolutionary War. Rifles for Watie by Harold Keith: Rifles for Watie follows the story of Jeff as he joins the Civil W...
