What We can do to Pass the Time
By Asher Ellis
Are you tired and bored? Do you have nothing to do but shout at your kids or hear your parents shout? This coronavirus era is a very difficult and confusing time. We want you to have the very best experience that you can have, even if the outside world is in terrible turmoil. In this article, we will give you a few suggestions on how to pass the time.
1. On Instagram, or anndeeellis.com, there is a site called eight minute memoir. It prompts you to flow your creative juices into writing, and write whatever it says. One day it might be to write about a magic salad that can turn you into whatever you want. Another day might be about how things are different now. Maybe a robot that becomes your friends, or a mountain that isn’t quite nonliving. There are two prompts a day, with an adult prompt (more mature) and a kid prompt (less mature). Of course, you can do either one, it is completely up to you. If you want, you can even do both! It is loads of fun, and this is one thing you shouldn’t miss.
2. The internet has such interesting things such as youtube, gmail and learning platforms. If you like youtube, you can go to hilarious videos such as Batman Goes to the Movies, 2CELLOS, StudioC, and others. You can go to gmail to chat with friends, or go to zoom, facetime and other video features to see your friends and family’s faces! If you have a mind that needs a challenge, go to IXL for eight grade and below math. You can get Bill Nye the Science Guy videos about science on Amazon prime, youtube, and other platforms. The internet can be used in amazing ways to help you.
3. You can go outside, do walks and hikes! If you cannot drive or walk to mountains and long, peaceful paths then you can simply put on masks and walk down the block. But if you do not have a mask a simple scarf will do. If you have pets, you can walk them down the block or play with them in a park or your backyard. Please note, DO NOT GO ON PLAYGROUNDS! If you have a backyard, you can do yard work, play with family or by yourself, lay down and take a peaceful nap, or anything else that your yard has in store. Me and my family have a large yard and so we take a lot of time jumping on the trampoline or playing imaginary games in the shrubs. We are building teepees, installing tetherball poles, and planning for chickens. If your yard space allows, I invite you to do the same.
4. Play board games and card games! There are many games that you can play by yourself or with friends. If you have no games at home, there are many games that have become available online and have been kept available online. There is chess and uno and other fun games. You can FaceTime or zoom with people to play even if you are in different households.
There are plenty more ways to pass the time, such as baking, sports and reading. You can discover yourself what you can do to pass the time, but these are just some suggestions. Maybe you have a lot of legos in your house. Maybe you enjoy playing video games or watching movies. Whatever it is, make sure that you are still interacting with the people you love.
