A Kids Perspective On The Coronavirus
By Sloane Knudsen
I wanted to know a little bit more about a kids perspective on the coronavirus. So I interviewed my cousin Vivi Tanner who lives in Beijing China about the coronavirus.
Q: What is it like for the kids in china?
A: When kids go outside they have to wear a mask, you can’t have playdates with your friends, and you don’t get to go to school.
Q: Where were you when you first heard about the coronavirus?
A: We were celebrating Chinese new year when I heard that we couldn’t go back to school. We would have to be doing quarantine and homeschool. We were going to go on some trips but we couldn’t go anymore because we didn’t want to risk getting stuck there.
Q: How did you feel about the coronavirus when you first heard about it? Were you scared?
A: I was a bit worried that we might get it but now that I’ve learnt more about it and am taking more safety precautions I feel more safe.
Q: How did your friends and family feel about it?
A: Our housekeeper was on a trip to see her family when she heard about the coronavirus she was scared because she was in a place where there were lots of cases of the virus.
Q: How long have you been quarantined?
A: We’ve been quarantined since January 17th which is around 4 months.
Q: Can you leave the house?
A: You can leave the house under precautions, you have to sanitize afterwards and you have to wear a mask.
Q: What is it like when you are out of the house?
A: Everyone is wearing a mask and you don’t really want to touch anything.
Q: What is it like when you leave your neighborhood?
A: You have to have a pass to leave the neighborhood, They have to check the trunk in your car to see if you are carrying anybody out, and they have to take your temperature. If you have coronavirus then ambulances come and they’ll take you to the hospital.
Q: Have you seen ambulances come?
A: No, but someone else in our neighborhood did. The person that had coronavirus, their house is blocked off with a pink poster.
Q: What would happen if a person in China broke the rules of quarantine?
A: If you go to a park and you don’t wear your mask, then a guard will remind you to put your mask on and to do social distancing.
Q: Is there anything interesting about the coronavirus in China that you would like to tell us about? A: Yes, coronavirus and quarantine aren’t actually that bad, you get more time to spend with your family, you can play games, and you can do a lot of exercise.
